Best Keno Numbers

The question every keno player asks, answered with real drawing counts instead of folklore.

In a fair keno draw there are no best numbers. All 80 have an identical chance of being among the 20 drawn, every game, regardless of history. The counts below come from real state lottery drawings and show exactly that. What actually changes your results is how many numbers you pick and what the game's paytable pays for each catch.

What the real drawings show

These totals are counted from 47,054 official drawings published by the Massachusetts State Lottery, Maryland Lottery, New York Lottery and Georgia Lottery Corporation. We store every drawing as it is published and keep a running per-number tally, so the counts grow every day rather than resetting.

Why the leaders and trailers are normal

A gap between the most drawn and least drawn number is not evidence of anything. Over a run of drawings each number's count wanders around a quarter of the total by roughly the square root of that count, which is the ordinary spread of a binomial outcome. Over ten thousand drawings that spread is about 43 either way, so a gap of a hundred hits between first place and last place is unremarkable. The share each number claims keeps closing in on 25 percent as totals grow, and the number sitting on top today is very often mid-table a month later.

What actually matters

Pick count

Pick counts trade frequency for ceiling. A 4-spot catches all four about 1 in 326, while a 10-spot's solid hit is 1 in 8,911,711. Small tickets pay small and often, big tickets pay big and rarely.

The paytable

Two games with identical odds can return very different money because their paytables differ. Comparing paytables is the one place a keno player can genuinely shop for value.

Test it yourself

Pick your own favorite numbers and race them against random picks in the strategy tester, or run them through ten thousand draws in the simulator. You can also watch hot and cold lists reshuffle themselves in the frequency tracker. Favorites are worth playing because they are yours, and that is the only edge they have.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What are the best keno numbers to play?

No number is better than another. Every draw takes 20 of the 80 numbers, so all 80 carry the same 25 percent chance of coming up in any game. Counts from real drawings confirm it, with every number landing close to a quarter of the drawings once enough of them pile up.

What are the most drawn keno numbers?

It depends entirely on which game and which stretch of drawings you count. This page shows running totals from real state lottery drawings, and the leader changes as more drawings come in, which is what randomness looks like.

Do hot keno numbers keep hitting?

No. A drawing has no memory of the one before it. A number that ran hot last week starts the next game at the same 25 percent as every other number.

What are the best 10 numbers for keno?

Any 10 numbers give identical odds. Catching all 10 on a 10-spot ticket is about 1 in 8.9 million whichever 10 you choose. What changes your results is how many spots you play and what the paytable pays for each catch.
